The 29-year-old has been settling into life at Old Trafford after having signed for the Red Devils from Chelsea FC in the summer transfer window.

It has been something of a mixed campaign for the Red Devils, with Manchester United having struggled to produce consistent form in all competitions under Jose Mourinho.

Manchester United were dumped out of the Champions League at the hands of Sevilla after a shock 2-1 loss at Old Trafford last weekend.

They were also beaten in the League Cup and are currently in second place to champions elect Manchester City in the Premier League table.

Manchester United’s last remaining hope of winning a trophy this season is in the FA Cup after the Red Devils set up a semi-final clash with Tottenham next month.

However, Matic believes that winning the FA Cup and finishing second in the table would still represent a disappointing campaign for a club of Manchester United’s stature.

Asked if the FA Cup would save their season, Matic is quoted as saying by Metro: “I think no. If we win the FA Cup it is good, but not perfect.

“You have four competitions in the season – if you win one for me it is not enough, but you always have to do your best.

“In the Premier League, when you are in the first four this is not perfect but is good to play for the Champions League next season.

“If you win the FA Cup I cannot say it is a successful season, but it’s a good season.”

Manchester United return to Premier League action with a home clash against Swansea after the international break.
